Standard operating procedure of Muffle Furnace used in Quality Control for Sulfated Ash test.
1.0 OBJECTIVE
To describe the procedure for operation of Muffle Furnace.
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP is applicable for the procedure for operation of Muffle Furnace.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Ensure that the area is clean and the calibration due date of the temperature indicator is with in calibration period.
5.2 Switch “ON” the main power supply of the Muffle Furnace.
5.3 Bulb glows, which indicates the power supply to the instrument.
5.4 Set the required temperature by 3 switches provided on the panel
5.4.1 Push switch
5.4.2 Two potentiometric knobs (Coarse and Fine Knobs)
5.5 Press “PUSH SWITCH” and simultaneously turn the “COARSE” knob clockwise or anticlockwise near required temperature and then turn “FINE” knob to set exact temperature.
5.6 Release the PUSH SWITCH.
5.7 Reset the instrument in case the temperature exceeds 1160°C.
5.8 Enter details in usage log book after completion of analysis.
5.2 Switch “ON” the main power supply of the Muffle Furnace.

5.4 Set the required temperature by 3 switches provided on the panel

5.5 Press “PUSH SWITCH” and simultaneously turn the “COARSE” knob clockwise or anticlockwise near required temperature and then turn “FINE” knob to set exact temperature.
5.6 Release the PUSH SWITCH.
5.7 Reset the instrument in case the temperature exceeds 1160°C.
5.8 Enter details in usage log book after completion of analysis.
