FIRE DRILL PROCEDURE
SIGNAL: 5 SHORT BELLS RUNG IN A CONTINOUS CYCLE
PROCEDURE DURING CLASS TIME
- Students exit classroom via both doors and WALK in orderly lines.
- Students evacuate the building by designated routs to the assembly area (see map).
- NO TALKING IS PERMITTED!!
- Teachers:
- Take your emergency folder and attendance cards with you.
- Check that all students are out of the classroom.
- Check that all exits are clear.
- Close classroom door. DO NOT LOCK. (Later entry may be required.)
- In assembly area, teacher takes roll and accounts for each child.
- Students in classrooms other than their own are to remain with that class until given permission to rejoin their class by both teachers.
- Students remain in orderly and silent lines until all clear signal is given (one long bell).
PROCEDURE USED BEFORE SCHOOL. DURING LUNCH AND RECESS
1. Students WALK to the assigned place on the yard where they meet their teacher before school.
2. Students wait in orderly and silent lines for their teacher, or other supervising adult, to conduct them to their proper assembly area.
PROCEDURE DURING P.E.
1. Teacher, or supervising adult, stops play, organizes class(es) into silent and orderly lines and conducts class(es) to assembly area.
PROCEDURE WHEN NOT IN YOUR OWN CLASSROOM
1. Teachers should be familiar with assembly area and evacuation route designated for that classroom or area.
2. The EMERGENCY FOLDER should accompany the class and be used by the teacher, or supervising adult, to account for all students.
All School Personnel, Certificated and Classified are to participate in all fire drills
Parents, guests and community people on the grounds during a drill must participate.
Adults are reminded that no talking is allowed. Please be good role models for the children.
EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
- Intense shaking occurs.
- Teacher gives command “DROP”. (See attached page)
- Wait for shaking to stop.
- Check for injuries and/or trapped individuals. Move all students who can be moved when you evacuate. Assure trapped individual that help with be forthcoming.
- After checking for blocked exits, give command to evacuate.
- In an emergency Rooms _______are to evacuate using the Gate on the ______ if the regular exit is blocked. Kindergarten will access the site to the Main Gate if safe or to the Virgil gate by walking up third Street. Classes will then line up according to pre-assigned areas and follow emergency procedures to assure the safety and security of children.
- Teachers will escort classes to the Emergency Assembly Area. They will take with them the emergency folder, attendance cards, class roster, etc. to enable them to take roll.
- At the Emergency Assembly Area (EAA), take roll and check for missing children/paraprofessionals. Teachers account for all students.
- At the Emergency Assembly Area (EAA), check for injuries, send class list and Missing Individual Report to he Incident Command Center (ICC). Send injured children/paraprofessionals to the First Aid Station.
- ICC accounts for all students and staff.
- EMERGENCY PLAN TEAMS BEGIN DUTIES
- Teachers/aids supervising students should continue to monitor the health and mental status of these students and report any individuals needing assistance to the ICC.
- The ICC will update staff members of the status of the emergency. All questions/requests must be directed to the ICC.
- Children are to be released only after receiving notice from the ICC. They will be escorted to the reunion gate.
- Staff members will be relieved of their assignments by the ICC.
Earthquake, “Drop/Hold” Drills and Procedures
“Drop/Hold” Inside Classroom
A. Upon command, drop down to knees.
B. Get under/below equipment (desks, tables, chairs, etc.); back to windows.
C. Grasp equipment (legs, etc.) with both hands, hold tight.
D. keep body under or below equiolplment.
E. Wait for further instructions.
“Drop/Hold” Outside School Buildings
A. Get clear of all buildings, power lines, light poles or sources that
maybe dangerous.
B. Assume “Drop/Hold” position if possible.
C. Wait for further instrucitons of all clear.
“Drop/Hold” To and From School
A. Move away from building, trees, hazards of any kind.
B. Assume “Drop/Hold” position if possible.
